Two screenplays by Harold Pinter are to get their world premieres on Radio 4 with a cast including Simon Russell Beale and Mark Strong.

It’s part of a series called Unmade Movies, a collection of work from celebrated writers, including Arthur Miller, which has never been adapted for film before.

The first to be broadcast is Victory, written by Pinter 30 years ago and based on a novel by Joseph Conrad. It is believed to have remained unproduced until now.

It’s to be brought to life by writer and producer Richard Eyre, featuring Simon Russell Beale and Mark Strong in leading roles.

The play tells the story of a Swedish baron who seeks solitude in the Dutch East Indies at the turn of the 20th century – but he endangers his life when he embarks on an affair with an English girl.

Dreaming Child, another Pinter Play, will follow. Directed by Joanna Hogg, best known for her films Archipelago and Unrelated, it centres on a wealthy but childless couple who adopt a slum child in Bristol in 1868.

It stars Anne Reid, stage actor Bertie Carvel and Rose Leslie from Game of Thrones, among others.

Radio 4 drama commissioner Jeremy Howe says: ‘It isn’t often that you can announce the premiere of a script by the late great Harold Pinter, one of the leading dramatists of the twentieth century, and then two come along, both wonderfully Pinteresque and both utterly different in tone and approach. This will be a treat for listeners.’

Unmade Movies begins on February 28, BBC Radio 4, 2.15pm
